# Is there an MCP server for Notion?

Updated 2026-10-03. First published 2026-10-02.

Yes: Notion MCP is the official MCP server published by Notion, a hosted service at `https://mcp.notion.com/mcp` that any MCP client with remote server support can connect to after an OAuth sign-in, checked on 2026-10-02. It is listed in the official MCP Registry as `com.notion/mcp`. Notion also published an open-source local server, makenotion/notion-mcp-server, but its own docs now say that repo is no longer actively maintained.

## How to connect Notion MCP

Notion's developer docs give setup steps for Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Antigravity, Devin, fx, Hermes and Pi. The commands below are copied from that guide on 2026-10-02. Each one ends with a browser sign-in where you pick the Notion workspace.

Claude Code, then run `/mcp` in a session and follow the OAuth flow:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http notion https://mcp.notion.com/mcp
```

Codex, in `~/.codex/config.toml`, then run `codex mcp login notion`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.notion]
url = "https://mcp.notion.com/mcp"
```

Cursor, in `.cursor/mcp.json`, then open Customize in the sidebar and enable Notion:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "notion": {
      "url": "https://mcp.notion.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

VS Code, in `.vscode/mcp.json`, then run MCP: List Servers and start Notion:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "notion": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.notion.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

In Antigravity, Notion advises adding it as a custom server with `serverUrl` set to the same URL, not the gallery's preset Notion entry, which runs the deprecated local package. Clients without Streamable HTTP can use `https://mcp.notion.com/sse` or the `mcp-remote` bridge. Notion's help center also names Claude.ai, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT, where you add Notion from the app's connector settings instead of a command.

## What Notion MCP can do, what it costs, and its limit

Notion MCP tools search the workspace (`notion-search`, `notion-ai-search`), read pages and databases (`notion-fetch`, `notion-query-data-sources`), and write: `notion-create-pages`, `notion-update-page`, `notion-move-pages`, `notion-duplicate-page`, `notion-create-database`, `notion-create-view` and `notion-create-comment`. File uploads go up to 20 MiB. Every call runs with the signed-in user's own permissions.

Notion MCP has no separate price; Notion lists the tools on all plans (docs read 2026-10-02). Some parts are plan-gated: searching connected sources needs Notion AI, filters such as last-edited date need Business or Enterprise,, and query volume across data sources depends on the plan. Current plan limits are on [Notion's pricing page](https://www.notion.com/pricing).

The real limit is authentication. The hosted server only accepts an interactive OAuth sign-in, and Notion says non-interactive authorization for automated workflows is not supported yet. On Enterprise plans, workspace owners can also restrict which AI apps and MCP clients may connect.

## Other Notion MCP servers

- [makenotion/notion-mcp-server](https://github.com/makenotion/notion-mcp-server) is Notion's older local server: MIT, 4,655 GitHub stars and last push 2026-09-20 (checked 2026-10-02). It authenticates with an integration token, so it suits automation that cannot open a browser. Notion says issues and pull requests there are not actively monitored.
- [suekou/mcp-notion-server](https://github.com/suekou/mcp-notion-server) is a community server, MIT, 919 stars and last push 2026-07-31. It runs with `npx` and an internal integration token and targets Notion API version 2026-03-11. Pick it when you need token auth from a codebase that still gets commits, and accept that Notion does not publish it.

## Questions people ask

### Is the Notion MCP server free?

There is no separate charge: Notion lists its MCP tools on all plans (developer docs, read 2026-10-02). Some tools need more: searching connected sources needs Notion AI, advanced search filters need Business or Enterprise, and querying meeting notes needs Business or higher with Notion AI.

### Can I use Notion MCP in CI or a script without a browser?

Not with the hosted server. Notion's docs say non-interactive authorization is not supported yet. The open-source makenotion/notion-mcp-server takes an integration token instead, but Notion no longer actively maintains it.
