# Best agent skills for making videos with code

Updated 2026-10-01. First published 2026-10-01.

Remotion's remotion-best-practices is the agent skill to start with for making videos with code: it lets an agent build videos as React components with a live preview, and AI assistants named Remotion first for this question on 2026-10-01. For plain HTML and an Apache-2.0 license, pick HeyGen's HyperFrames instead. We compared 4 skills on how a video is described, license, rendering and the agents they document; Watch and Slack GIF Creator are here because assistants name them for neighbouring jobs. Facts checked on 2026-10-01.

| Name | Best for | Made by | License | Notes | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| [Remotion best practices](https://cookiesforai.app/skills/remotion-dev/remotion-best-practices) | Videos written as React code, with a live preview | Remotion | No license file in the skills repo | 4,803 stars | 2026-10-02 |
| [HyperFrames](https://cookiesforai.app/skills/heygen-com/hyperframes) | Videos written as HTML, open license, ready-made workflows | HeyGen | Apache-2.0 | 55,348 stars | 2026-10-02 |
| [Watch](https://cookiesforai.app/skills/bradautomates/watch) | Understanding videos, not making them | bradautomates | MIT | 17,914 stars | 2026-10-02 |
| [Slack GIF Creator](https://cookiesforai.app/skills/anthropics/slack-gif-creator) | Short animated GIFs drawn in Python, not video | Anthropic | Apache-2.0 | 179,326 stars | 2026-10-02 |

## Remotion best practices: videos as React code

Remotion best practices is Remotion's own agent skill and the router to its other video skills, for developers who want an agent to build videos in React. Its strength is the working loop: for a new video the agent sets up a project if needed, starts Remotion Studio and opens the preview as soon as the project runs, so you watch and steer while it writes; it renders an MP4 only when you ask in plain words such as "export". Separate guides cover captions, maps, rendering, SaaS apps, documentation lookup and upgrades. Its limit is the license: Remotion is free for individuals, for-profit companies with up to 3 employees and non-profits, and other for-profit companies need a paid company license, while the skills repository itself has no license file. The main remotion-dev/remotion repository had 61,373 GitHub stars on 2026-10-01, the skills repository 4,795. Remotion documents Claude Code, Codex, Kimi Code and Cursor. Details: [Remotion best practices on CookiesForAI](/skills/remotion-dev/remotion-best-practices).

## HyperFrames: videos as HTML, with ready-made workflows

HyperFrames is HeyGen's entry-point agent skill for its open-source video framework, for anyone who wants an agent to turn HTML, CSS and animations into MP4 files. Its strength is the set of workflows behind it: the router reads your brief, then hands off to one of the 21 published skills, such as a launch video from a product website, a video from a GitHub pull request, captions on talking-head footage or a beat-synced music video. The framework is Apache-2.0, with no commercial-use thresholds, and renders each frame in headless Chrome before encoding with FFmpeg, so the same input gives the same video. Its limit is age and setup: the repository was created on 2026-03-10, it needs Node.js 22 or newer and FFmpeg, and HeyGen's own comparison calls its Lambda rendering newer than Remotion's. The repository had 55,056 GitHub stars on 2026-10-01. HeyGen documents Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, IBM Bob, OpenCode and GitHub Copilot. Details: [HyperFrames on CookiesForAI](/skills/heygen-com/hyperframes).

## Watch: a different job, understanding videos

Watch is an open-source agent skill for a different job: it lets your agent understand a video rather than make one, for people who want answers from a YouTube talk, a screen recording or a demo. Its strength is the choice of two engines. The local engine downloads the video with yt-dlp, pulls frames with ffmpeg and takes the transcript from captions or a Whisper service; the Gemini engine, with a free Google API key, lets Google's video model watch the whole video with sound. Its limit is where it runs and where your video goes: the publisher says it does not work in the Claude chat app, in Cowork or in browser-only apps, and the Gemini engine sends YouTube links to Google and uploads other videos there. The bradautomates/claude-video repository had 17,888 GitHub stars on 2026-10-01, under the MIT license, and documents Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and GitHub Copilot. Pair it with Remotion or HyperFrames when an agent should study a reference video before making its own. Details: [Watch on CookiesForAI](/skills/bradautomates/watch).

## Slack GIF Creator: short animations, not video

Slack GIF Creator is Anthropic's open-source agent skill for animated GIFs sized for Slack, for teams that want a custom emoji or a reaction GIF rather than a video file. Its strength is that it knows the target: 128 by 128 pixels for emoji, 480 by 480 for message GIFs, 10 to 30 frames per second and under three seconds for emoji, and bundled Python modules assemble the frames, add easing and check whether the file is ready for Slack. The agent draws every frame with the Pillow library, using shapes rather than stock graphics, or animates an image you upload. Its limit is scope: no audio, no video formats, and animation patterns such as bounce, spin and fade rather than scenes. The folder carries its own Apache-2.0 license, read on 2026-10-01, so it may be used in any agent through the skills CLI, and Gemini named it in our video question that day. ## What AI assistants answered

We asked six AI assistants "What agent skills exist for making videos with code?" on 2026-10-01. ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews all named Remotion first and HyperFrames among their first three. Gemini also named Anthropic's algorithmic-art and slack-gif-creator skills. Grok did not search: it answered from its own bundled ffmpeg skill and named imagemagick, with no Remotion or HyperFrames. Perplexity had hit its free search limit before this question. Full results: [our field study](/research/ai-assistants-field-study-october-2026).

Some names from those answers are not on this list. [browser-use/video-use](https://github.com/browser-use/video-use) (27,816 stars, MIT, on 2026-10-01) edits existing videos with coding agents, which is closer to editing than to making videos from code. [iart-ai/motion-skills](https://github.com/iart-ai/motion-skills) (629 stars, MIT) packs 50 motion-graphics skills. We left out Anthropic's [Algorithmic Art](/skills/anthropics/algorithmic-art) because it makes interactive p5.js sketches and still images, not video files.

## How we compared

We read each skill's SKILL.md and its repository README on GitHub on 2026-10-01, Remotion's LICENSE.md, Remotion's Agent Skills documentation and HeyGen's HyperFrames vs Remotion guide. Stars, licenses, install routes and last-change dates come from our item pages, checked the same day. Criteria: how a video is described (React, HTML or Python frames), license and cost for companies, how rendering works, which agents the publisher documents, and whether the skill fits the job of making video at all. We did not render test videos, time renders or compare output quality, and we did not price Remotion's company license.

## How to choose

- If your team writes React and wants a framework in development since 2020 with mature cloud rendering, use Remotion's skills, and check whether your company needs a Remotion company license.
- If you want plain HTML, an Apache-2.0 license or ready-made workflows such as a launch video from a website, use HyperFrames.
- If you already have Remotion compositions and want to move, HyperFrames has a one-way remotion-to-hyperframes skill.
- If your agent should understand videos you give it, install Watch; it does not make videos.
- If you only need a short looping animation for Slack, Slack GIF Creator is enough.

## Questions people ask

### What agent skills exist for making videos with code?

The two that most AI assistants named on 2026-10-01 are Remotion's skills (remotion-dev/skills, videos as React code) and HeyGen's HyperFrames (videos as HTML, Apache-2.0). Both work in Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. For editing existing footage, browser-use/video-use is another option.

### Is the Remotion agent skill free?

The skills install for free, but Remotion itself is under the Remotion License, read on 2026-10-01: free for individuals, for-profit companies with up to 3 employees and non-profits, while larger for-profit companies need a paid company license. The skills repository has no license file of its own.

### Can an agent skill make my coding agent watch a video?

Yes, but that is a different job from making one. Watch (bradautomates/claude-video) turns a link or file into frames and a transcript, or hands it to Google's Gemini, so the agent can answer questions about it.
