# Godot MCP server

The Godot MCP server gives AI agents control of the Godot engine: launch the editor, run projects in debug mode, capture errors and console output, and create scenes and nodes.

## Connect

Claude Code:

```
claude mcp add godot -- npx @coding-solo/godot-mcp
```

Claude Code with a custom Godot path and debug logs:

```
claude mcp add godot -e GODOT_PATH=/path/to/godot -e DEBUG=true -- npx @coding-solo/godot-mcp
```

Cursor .cursor/mcp.json, Cline or any client with a JSON config:

```
{"mcpServers": {"godot": {"command": "npx", "args": ["@coding-solo/godot-mcp"], "env": {"GODOT_PATH": "/path/to/godot", "DEBUG": "true"}}}}
```

Restart the client after adding the server. If the server cannot find Godot, set GODOT_PATH to the Godot executable. Project paths must point to a folder containing project.godot.

## Ask your coding agent

```text
Connect the Godot MCP server to my coding agent using its documented setup: https://github.com/Coding-Solo/godot-mcp.
```

## What it does

Godot MCP is a community MCP server, written in TypeScript, that connects AI agents to the Godot game engine. Its main use is a feedback loop: the agent writes GDScript, runs the project in debug mode, reads the console output and errors, and fixes what broke, instead of guessing whether its code works.

Godot MCP also edits projects. It can create a scene with a chosen root node type, add nodes with properties, load textures into Sprite2D nodes, export 3D scenes as MeshLibrary resources for GridMap, and save scenes or variants. Simple actions call Godot's command line directly; complex ones go through a single bundled GDScript file that takes the operation as JSON. For Godot 4.4 and later it can read and refresh resource UIDs.

Godot MCP runs with npx and finds the Godot executable on its own, or uses the path in GODOT_PATH. The repo had 5,900 GitHub stars on 2026-10-01, but its last push was on 2026-04-16, more than five months earlier, so check the issue tracker before relying on it with a new Godot release.

Tools it gives your agent: `launch_editor`, `run_project`, `get_debug_output`, `stop_project`, `get_godot_version`, `list_projects`, `get_project_info`, `create_scene`, `add_node`, `load_sprite`, `save_scene`, `update_project_uids`

## When to use it

- You want the agent to run your game and fix the errors it sees in the output.
- You want a new scene scaffolded with the right node tree.
- You want to know the structure of an unfamiliar Godot project.
- You need resource UIDs updated after moving files in Godot 4.4 or later.

## When to pick something else

- Projects that need an actively maintained tool: the last push was on 2026-04-16, and newer community Godot servers are listed in the MCP Registry.
- Editing scenes while the editor runs: it changes scene files through a script and Godot's command line, not through a live editor plugin.

## What it needs

- Godot Engine installed
- Node.js 18 or newer and npm
