## What LoudReader does

LoudReader reads EPUB and PDF files, saved web articles and free Project Gutenberg books aloud, highlighting each word as it is spoken.

Speech is generated on your device, so it plays offline, keeps playing with the screen locked and needs no account.

With Premium, you get adjustable speed, a sleep timer, ambient soundscapes, and notes and highlights.

## Who LoudReader suits

- Readers who want to listen to their own ebooks and PDFs
- Travelers who want audiobooks without a data connection

One limit: Every voice is free to try for the first 8 hours of listening; after that a free English voice selection stays.

## LoudReader and AI

AI inside, as the maker says: The maker's page says natural AI voices read your text aloud, with speech generated on your device. ([source](https://loudreader.io/))

Built with AI, as the maker says: The maker says the project took two to three months of weekends with Claude Code and Codex. ([source](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47780234))

## What LoudReader costs

Free tier: Free plan. LoudReader is free for unlimited listening with a free English voice selection; Premium is a monthly, yearly or lifetime in-app purchase.
