Devin

Devin is a cloud coding agent by Cognition that works in its own virtual machines, takes tasks from Slack, GitHub, Linear or Jira, and also ships as a CLI and the Devin Desktop editor.

What Devin does

Devin is Cognition's cloud coding agent. Each session runs in its own Linux, Windows or Mac virtual machine, so it can install dependencies, run the app and tests, and open a pull request. You hand it work from the web app, Slack, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, Linear or Jira and review the result when it is done.

Devin is now a family of products on one account. Devin CLI (formerly Devin for Terminal, renamed on 2026-05-26) is a local terminal agent that can hand a task to the cloud with /handoff; Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf) is the editor; Devin Review reviews pull requests and is free for public GitHub repos; DeepWiki documents repositories.

Devin offers models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, Cognition's own SWE models and open models such as DeepSeek, Kimi and GLM. Fusion pairs a frontier model with a cheaper helper model, and a ChatGPT plan can pay for GPT usage. Quotas are daily and weekly, shared across Cloud, CLI and Desktop.

Who Devin is for

  • Teams that want to delegate tickets from Slack, Linear or Jira to an agent running in the cloud
  • Work that needs a full machine: installing dependencies, running the app and tests
  • People who want local and cloud agents under one subscription
  • Reviewing pull requests on public GitHub repos at no cost with Devin Review

Who should pick something else

  • Developers who want a free cloud agent: Devin Cloud needs the paid Pro plan or higher
  • People who need published usage numbers: quotas are daily and weekly, but the pricing page does not give their size
  • Teams that need an open source agent they can host themselves; OpenCode in GitHub Actions or Goose fit that

Devin: one strength, one limit

Strength. Devin runs each session in its own virtual machine on Linux, Windows or Mac and takes tasks from five work tools (Slack, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, Linear and Jira), with up to 10 concurrent sessions on Pro.

Limit. Devin's quota sizes are not published on the pricing page, and Devin Cloud needs at least the paid Pro plan; the Free plan covers only a light quota.

What Devin costs

Free plan with a light agent quota; Devin Cloud and larger daily and weekly quotas need a paid plan.

Current prices: devin.ai . We do not list prices: vendors change them often, so check the maker's own page before you buy.

Devin with agent skills and MCP servers

Skills. Devin supports Agent Skills natively. Devin Cloud reads skills from .agents/skills in your repo, following the agentskills.io specification, since 2026-02-13. Devin CLI reads project skills from .agents/skills, .devin/skills and .windsurf/skills, and global skills from ~/.agents/skills and ~/.config/devin/skills. The open skills CLI 1.7.0 installs into .devin/skills under its Devin for Terminal target.

MCP. Devin CLI adds MCP servers with devin mcp add <name> -- <command> [args] for a local server or devin mcp add <name> <URL> for a remote one, then devin mcp login <name> for OAuth. -s project writes .devin/mcp_config.json, -s user writes ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, and the default local scope writes .devin/mcp_config.local.json, all under the mcpServers key.
