Blender MCP server

The Blender MCP server, MCP for Blender, gives AI agents control of a running Blender scene: create, change and delete objects, apply materials, inspect the scene and run Python in Blender.

Connect Blender

One-command setup on macOS or Linux (installs uv, configures clients, installs the addon)

Terminal
curl -LsSf https://www.mcp-for-blender.com/install.sh | sh

Setup when uv is already installed

Terminal
uvx mcp-for-blender setup

Claude Code, manual

Terminal
claude mcp add blender uvx mcp-for-blender

Codex, manual

Terminal
codex mcp add blender -- uvx mcp-for-blender

Install the Blender addon, manual route

Terminal
uvx mcp-for-blender install-addon

After a manual install, enable Interface: MCP for Blender in Blender under Edit, Preferences, Add-ons. Fully quit and reopen your AI app after setup. In the 3D viewport, press N and open the MCP for Blender tab to check the server is running.

What the Blender MCP server does

MCP for Blender, formerly blender-mcp, is a community MCP server that connects AI agents to Blender for prompt-driven 3D modeling. It has two parts: a Blender addon that opens a socket server inside Blender, and a Python MCP server that your AI client runs. Through them an agent can create, modify and delete objects, set materials and colors, read detailed scene information, and run arbitrary Python inside Blender.

MCP for Blender can also pull in assets: Poly Haven models, textures and HDRIs, Sketchfab models, Poly Pizza low-poly models, and AI-generated 3D models from Hyper3D Rodin, Hunyuan3D and Tripo. Generation needs your own API keys on the Free plan, or a paid plan that covers the cost. The author is not affiliated with Blender.

MCP for Blender has a one-line installer that sets up uv, finds the MCP clients on your machine and installs the addon. By default it sends a minimal anonymous usage record per tool call; prompts, code and scene data are only collected if you opt in, and DISABLE_TELEMETRY=true turns it off. The repo had 29,805 GitHub stars on 2026-10-01, the most of any MCP server in our game and 3D category.

When to use Blender

  • You want to block out a scene from a text description.
  • You want the agent to apply materials or lighting across many objects.
  • You need a quick prop from Poly Haven or Sketchfab placed in the scene.
  • You want to script a repetitive Blender task without writing the Python yourself.

When to pick something else

  • Unsaved work: the execute_blender_code tool runs any Python inside Blender, and the README says to save before using it.
  • Running two clients at once: only one MCP server instance should connect to Blender at a time.
  • Official support: it is a community project, not made by the Blender Foundation.

What Blender needs

  • Blender with the MCP for Blender addon enabled
  • uv (installed by the setup script) and Python 3.10 or newer

What the Blender MCP server costs

Free and open source under MIT, and every feature works with your own API keys; optional paid plans cover the cost of AI 3D generation instead.

  • Godot: The Godot MCP server gives AI agents control of the Godot engine: launch the editor, run projects in debug mode, capture errors and console output, and create scenes and nodes.
  • Unity: The Unity MCP server, MCP for Unity, gives AI agents control of the Unity Editor: create scenes and GameObjects, edit C# scripts, manage assets, run tests, profile and build.
