What AI SEO does

AI SEO is one of Corey Haines's marketing skills, for getting content cited by AI assistants and AI search: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and others. It loads for terms such as AEO, GEO, LLM optimization, llms.txt or agent readiness. Like the rest of the set, it first reads your product marketing context file if one exists.

The audit has four steps. The agent tests 10 to 20 of your key queries across platforms and records who gets cited, compares how cited competitors structure their pages, checks whether your content can be extracted as standalone passages, and checks that robots.txt lets AI search crawlers in. The strategy then works on three pillars: structure, authority and presence on the third-party sites AI systems read.

Structure rules include leading each section with a direct answer, short answer passages, headings phrased like real questions, and tables for comparisons. The skill also covers machine-readable files such as llms.txt, schema markup, which content types get cited most, monitoring tools, and a list of things not to do drawn from Google's guidance, such as writing separate content just for AI or blocking the crawlers you want citations from.

When to use AI SEO

  • You want to know whether ChatGPT or Perplexity mention your product for the questions buyers ask.
  • A competitor gets cited in AI answers and you do not.
  • You want pages rewritten so AI search can quote them.
  • You are deciding which AI crawlers to allow in robots.txt.

When to pick something else

  • Classic ranking problems such as indexing or Core Web Vitals: use seo-audit from the same set.
  • Treating its numbers as fixed rules: citation patterns change as AI engines update, so retest its advice on the engines you care about.
