Design taste frontend

design-taste-frontend, the main skill in Leon Lin's Taste Skill repository, makes an AI agent read the brief, pick a design direction and build landing pages, portfolios and redesigns that avoid templated defaults.

Install Design taste frontend

Install the skill with the skills CLI

Terminal
npx skills add Leonxlnx/taste-skill --skill design-taste-frontend

Or pin the original v1, which the publisher keeps for projects that depend on it

Terminal
npx skills add Leonxlnx/taste-skill --skill design-taste-frontend-v1

Or paste this into your coding agent: Install the agent skill design-taste-frontend from github.com/Leonxlnx/taste-skill. A skill can include scripts that run on your computer, so read its source first.

What Design taste frontend does

Design taste frontend is the default skill in the Taste Skill repository, kept in the taste-skill folder but installed by its frontmatter name. The README labels this version v2 and experimental. Before writing code, the agent states a one-line design read: the page type, the audience, the visual language and the design system it will lean on. If the brief is unclear, it asks exactly one question.

The design read sets three dials from 1 to 10: design variance, motion intensity and visual density, with a baseline of 8, 6 and 4 and presets for agency sites, developer portfolios, public-sector services and redesigns. When a brief matches a real design system, such as Fluent, Material, Carbon, Primer, GOV.UK Frontend or shadcn/ui, the agent is told to install the official package instead of copying its look by hand.

The default stack is React or Next.js with Tailwind v4 and the Motion library. Long rule sections cover typography, color, layout, dark mode, reduced motion, Core Web Vitals targets and a list of AI tells to avoid, such as purple gradients, three equal feature cards and placeholder names. Redesigns start with an audit of the existing site, and every build ends with a pre-flight check.

When to use Design taste frontend

  • You want a landing page that does not look like a default AI template.
  • You are building a portfolio and want the agent to choose a style that fits the audience.
  • You are redesigning a site and want an audit before anything changes.
  • You want the agent to use an official design system package when the brief calls for one.

When to pick something else

  • Dashboards, data tables and multi-step product UI: the skill rules them out of scope in its first lines.
  • Projects that need fixed behavior: v2 is marked experimental, and the publisher keeps design-taste-frontend-v1 for pinning.

Which agents Design taste frontend works in

Leon Lin documents Design taste frontend for Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, Any agent that reads SKILL.md files, through the skills CLI. The open skills CLI also installs it into 78 agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode (we listed it with the CLI on October 1, 2026).
