Requesting Code Review

Requesting Code Review is an agent skill from Superpowers: your agent sends its changes to a separate reviewer subagent that checks them against the plan and grades each issue by severity.

Install Requesting Code Review

In Claude Code, install the whole Superpowers plugin from Anthropic's official marketplace

Terminal
/plugin install superpowers@claude-plugins-official

Or install only this skill with the skills CLI

Terminal
npx skills add obra/superpowers --skill requesting-code-review

Or paste this into your coding agent: Install the agent skill requesting-code-review from github.com/obra/superpowers. A skill can include scripts that run on your computer, so read its source first.

What Requesting Code Review does

Requesting Code Review is one of the skills in Superpowers, Jesse Vincent's open-source method for AI coding agents. It loads after a task, after a major feature, or before a merge, and it is required after every task when you work with Subagent-Driven Development. The agent does not review its own diff. It takes the git range for the work and dispatches a reviewer subagent with context written for the review, never the session's history.

The code-reviewer.md template bundled with Requesting Code Review fills in what was built, the plan or requirements, and the base and head commits. The reviewer works read-only, never spawns reviewers of its own, and checks plan alignment, code quality, architecture, testing and production readiness. It lists the behaviors it set aside as outside the plan, and treats the spec as a vision document: where the spec is silent, what a reasonable user would expect counts as a requirement.

The Requesting Code Review reviewer returns strengths, issues graded Critical, Important or Minor with a file and line for each, recommendations, and a clear ready-to-merge verdict. The agent fixes Critical issues at once, fixes Important ones before moving on, and notes Minor ones for later. When the reviewer is wrong, the agent pushes back with technical reasoning and shows the code or tests that prove it works.

When to use Requesting Code Review

  • Your agent finished a feature and you want a second opinion before you merge.
  • You want review findings sorted by severity, with a file and line for each.
  • You want the changes checked against your plan, not only for style.
  • Your agent is stuck and a fresh look at the code could help.

When to pick something else

  • You are on the receiving end of review comments: use Receiving Code Review.

Which agents Requesting Code Review works in

Jesse Vincent documents Requesting Code Review for Claude Code, Codex (app and CLI), Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, OpenCode, Antigravity, Devin CLI, Factory Droid, Grok Build CLI, Kimi Code, Pi, Qwen Code, Hermes Agent, Muse. The open skills CLI also installs it into 78 agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode (we listed it with the CLI on October 1, 2026). See where each agent looks for skills.

Superpowers is written in Claude Code's vocabulary (subagent dispatch, todos, the Skill tool) and ships tool mappings for Codex, Gemini CLI, Pi, Antigravity, Hermes Agent and Muse. Installed as the full plugin, a session-start hook loads Using Superpowers so the agent reaches for skills on its own; one skill installed with the skills CLI gets no hook and may point to sibling skills you do not have. This skill needs a subagent tool: Claude Code's Agent tool, or in Codex the multi-agent feature switched on in config.toml (multi_agent = true).
