Vercel Optimize

Vercel Optimize is Vercel's agent skill that audits a deployed project from its production metrics and returns ranked, verified fixes to cut cost and speed up slow routes.

Install Vercel Optimize

Install this skill with the skills CLI

Terminal
npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills --skill vercel-optimize

Or install every Vercel skill at once

Terminal
npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills

Or paste this into your coding agent: Install the agent skill vercel-optimize from github.com/vercel-labs/agent-skills. A skill can include scripts that run on your computer, so read its source first.

What Vercel Optimize does

Vercel Optimize runs a cost and performance audit on a project already deployed to Vercel. It loads for requests about a lower Vercel bill, slow or expensive routes, caching, Core Web Vitals, Fluid compute, Fast Data Transfer, Bot Management, Build Minutes or Function Invocations. Next.js, SvelteKit and Nuxt are supported and Astro is limited; for other frameworks the agent asks before running a limited audit.

The Vercel Optimize audit starts from metrics, not from reading code. Bundled Node.js scripts collect 14 days of production metrics, usage and project config through the Vercel CLI, scan the codebase and merge the results. A gate script picks which candidates deserve investigation, six by default, and the agent reads only the files tied to each candidate. With three or more investigations it can give each one to its own sub-agent.

A Vercel Optimize verification script checks every recommendation against real files, line numbers and a bundled library of version-matched Vercel and framework docs, and strips citations that do not fit. The report states cost impact in words, never in dollar amounts. The skill needs Vercel CLI v53 or later, a signed-in CLI in a linked project, Node.js 20 or later, and Observability Plus for route-level recommendations.

When to use Vercel Optimize

  • You saw your Vercel bill go up and want to know which routes or settings drive it.
  • You have routes in a Next.js, SvelteKit or Nuxt app that are slow or rarely served from cache.
  • You have poor Core Web Vitals and want fixes tied to real traffic.
  • You want each recommendation to cite the exact files and docs behind it.

When to pick something else

  • Your project is not deployed on Vercel yet: the audit starts from production metrics.
  • You want React performance rules applied while you code: use React Best Practices.

Which agents Vercel Optimize works in

Vercel documents Vercel Optimize for any AI coding agent that reads Agent Skills, installed with the skills CLI. The open skills CLI also installs it into 78 agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode (we listed it with the CLI on October 1, 2026). See where each agent looks for skills.

With three or more investigations the SKILL.md gives each to its own sub-agent when the host supports them; hosts without sub-agents run them one after another.
