Database migration
database-migration is an agent skill from Seth Hobson's wshobson/agents marketplace for writing schema and data migrations in Sequelize, TypeORM and Prisma, with zero-downtime patterns and rollback strategies.
Install Database migration
Install this skill with the skills CLI
npx skills add wshobson/agents --skill database-migrationOr with GitHub's gh CLI
gh skill install wshobson/agents database-migrationOr, in Claude Code, add the wshobson/agents marketplace
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agentsThen install the framework-migration plugin, which holds this skill
/plugin install framework-migrationOr paste this into your coding agent: Install the agent skill database-migration from github.com/wshobson/agents.
A skill can include scripts that run on your computer, so read its source first.
What Database migration does
database-migration is an agent skill in wshobson/agents, an independent plugin marketplace with 40,127 GitHub stars on 2026-10-01. It gives an agent working templates for migrations in three ORMs: Sequelize migration files with up and down functions, TypeORM migration classes, and Prisma schema changes applied with prisma migrate. Each template shows the command to run it and the command to undo it.
The database-migration skill focuses on changes that must not take an app offline. Adding a column comes with a default value. Renaming a column happens in three steps: add the new column and copy the data, switch the application over, then drop the old column in a later migration. Changing a column type goes through a temporary column with a cast, and a data transformation example splits one address column into street, city and state, with a down step that rebuilds it.
For rollbacks the skill shows migrations wrapped in a transaction and a checkpoint approach that copies the table to a backup and restores it if a check fails. A reference file adds blue-green deployment for databases and a worked PostgreSQL to MySQL migration. The examples update rows one at a time and are written for JavaScript and TypeScript only; there is nothing for Django, Rails, Alembic or Go migration tools.
When to use Database migration
- You need to rename a column in production without downtime.
- You want a migration with a working down step so you can roll it back.
- You need to split one column into several, such as an address into street, city and state.
- You are switching a Node.js app from one ORM to another.
When to pick something else
- Prisma 6 to 7 upgrades: Prisma's own prisma-upgrade-v7 skill covers the breaking changes.
- Python, Ruby or Go projects: the examples are only Sequelize, TypeORM and Prisma.
Which agents Database migration works in
Seth Hobson documents Database migration for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Antigravity CLI, GitHub Copilot, Pi. The open skills CLI also installs it into 78 agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode (we listed it with the CLI on October 1, 2026).
